The Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding is dedicated to education in the fundamental principles of genetics, heredity, plant breeding, and crop improvement. The department offers a balanced curriculum that integrates classroom teaching with practical laboratory exercises, field experiments, and experiential learning to strengthen students’ scientific understanding and technical skills. Well-equipped laboratories and instructional farm facilities provide hands-on practical experience in plant breeding techniques, seed production, varietal identification, and hybridization methods. Students are also encouraged to participate in practical demonstrations, field visits, seminars, and project work to enhance their analytical and problem-solving abilities. The department strives to develop competent agricultural graduates with a sound foundation in genetics and plant breeding, preparing them for higher education, research, extension services, and careers in the agricultural sector while contributing to sustainable crop production and food security.
